Hello and a warm welcome. Today we're going to tackle something that many people really stumble over when learning German. The N-declension sounds complicated, but I promise you, there's a clear system behind it.
and we're going to crack that together today. Okay, let's dive right in. Take a look at this. On the left, we have a perfectly normal sentence: 'Der Bär schläft' (The bear sleeps).
Simple, right? But on the right, with 'Ich sehe den Bären' (I see the bear), an extra 'n' suddenly appears at the end. Huh, where does that come from? Yes, exactly. That's the question everything revolves around today, because this
additional 'n' is no coincidence and no mistake. There's a solid rule behind it. And this rule, of course, also has a name. But don't worry, it might sound like dry grammar at first, but it's
not at all. The whole thing is called the N-declension. Imagine it like this: In German, there's a specific group of masculine nouns that are, so to speak, a bit weak, and in some situations in a sentence, they need a little
