Imagine you step into a typical Dutch living room. Let's say streamers on the ceiling, a huge cream cake on the table.
Yes. And of course, that famous perfect circle of chairs. Exactly. The circle of chairs. Everyone looks at you, smiling. The atmosphere is fantastic. And then suddenly someone approaches you, shakes your hand, and asks one simple question about your age.
And your brain freezes instantly. Completely. You stand there with your mouth full of teeth. Simply because the words refuse to find the route from your brain to your mouth.
That is truly the ultimate nightmare for anyone learning a new language. But you know, that acute block doesn't happen because you're stupid.
No. Then why does it happen at that exact moment? Well, it's because the social pressure suddenly exceeds the cognitive capacity of your working memory. Your brain is just overloaded for a moment.
