Hmm, nice. Let's say you've found that vintage item you've been searching for, through the glass display case.
Yes, it's an exciting moment. If you were speaking English at that moment, you'd simply point and say, "This."
Right, it's just a physical action. But if you were speaking Japanese at that moment, you wouldn't just be pointing at something.
Oh, it's completely different. The single word you choose instantly draws an invisible boundary or personal space between you and the shop assistant.
